Not only do I make new friends in humans while travelling, I also meet some great animal friends along the way. What sets them apart from my human friends, is their innocence and the fact that they love to play with me all the time (except for the lions).
1. Yaks in Sikkim
On my route to Nathula Pass, I met so many yaks. It was the first time I set my eyes on yaks and they were all around the place. I used to think that yaks are wild animals, but they were very tame and cute. Like I mentioned, they were ready to play with us throughout the time.
2. Camels in Alibaug
You can ride a camel at almost all the beaches of Alibaug. The charges are not fixed so you must have good bargaining skills.
3. Horses in Mahabaleshwar
The fun part is that the horses in Mahabaleshwar are named after popular Bollywood movies, characters, and actors. We encountered horses with names like Salman Khan, Shahrukh Khan, Chulbul Pandey, Singham, and so on. The horse in the image down below with me was called Badal.
4. Rabbits in Lonavala
Along with my friends, I also had the company of cute little rabbits, in my hotel at Lonavala. It was so lovely to have rabbits moving near us while we were having breakfast.
5. Elephants in Goa
I had read about the Elephant Farm and Dolphin Tour in Goa. So when we finally set off for sightseeing in Goa, I immediately asked the driver about them. The Dolphin Tour was shut in the monsoon (I went in June). But he said he would take us to the Elephant Farm. When I saw the elephant, I felt so happy and excited that, for the first time, I forgot to take a picture.
6. Flamingos in Bhigwan
But I have scores of pictures of the flamingos I met in Bhigwan. Bhigwan is a small town located around 100 kms ahead of Pune. You can lay eyes on hundreds of flamingos and many other migratory birds like Common Hoopoe, Brahminy Starting, Yellow Wagtail, Herons, Egrets, Asian Openbill, etc. in Bhigwan.
7. Lions in Silvassa
When I planned a trip to Silvassa last year, I didn’t know I would find lions there. Vasona Lion Safari Park in Silvassa has one lion and two lionesses. And I was fortunate enough to spot all the 3 lions.
8. Dogs in Gangtok
I met Bravo and Nicky at the home where I was staying in Gangtok. Dinner became more enjoyable with Bravo sneaking under the table and Nicky licking my jeans. I miss them so much sometimes!
9. Tubby in Imagica
Tubby is one of my favourite characters at Imagica. I know Tubby is not a real animal, but he is just as charming and huge as a real elephant.
So these are my animal friends. I want to now befriend tigers, crocodiles, dolphins, snow leopards, and ostriches too. I hope to see them soon!
