Flay Lay Photography | Basics of Flat Lay Photography (Easy Tips to Get Started)

We are going to do some flat lay photography, guys. Flat lay photography is as simple as the title suggests. You photograph objects on a flat surface like a table or floor and have your camera directly above what you want to photograph. Pretty simple, right? But we can do so much with this. So, I am going to try various flat lay compositions today of food, products, etc. So let’s get started.

For my flat lay photography, I will lay my props and stuff on a table and have the camera right above the scene, with an 80cm Octabox to one side, which will be my light source. I will shoot in manual mode and keep my settings such that I get a fully black scene. Only the Octabox should light the scene. Once my settings are in place, I will turn on the flash and start clicking.

Flat lay photographs are a great way to start with food or product photography. Just one angle but you can go wild with your creativity within that space.
